The Beth El Summer Israel Film Series continues with Vice Versa at 7:30 p.m.
Two brothers struggle to come to terms with their political and religious beliefs when they reunite in Israel after years of silence. Dan, a secular kibbutznik and staunch Zionist, lives a quiet life with his family. His brother Aaron is a religious New York lawyer, who takes up a case defending the rights of Talmudic students to refuse military service. When the case threatens to incite civil war, the two men are forced to reexamine their relationship, beliefs and political positions. The film opens a subtle yet essential discussion on the separation of religion and state in Israel as well as the circumstances that tear families apart and bring them together again.
All films $8/person at the door, including "movie refreshments." All films are in Hebrew with subtitles. No RSVP necessary. Each film is shown at Beth El Synagogue Center 1324 North Ave. in New Rochelle. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
